POLICE are trying to trace a man caught on CCTV walking along a pathway just minutes before a woman was sexually assaulted nearby.

The victim, in her 20s, was also seen on the security cameras at Livingston North rail station as she walked home from a nightclub.

Detectives want to find a man who was on the same path a few minutes ahead of her.

The woman was attacked between 2.45am and 3.30am on Saturday after leaving the Grand Central nightclub alone.

Detective Inspector Derek Long said: “We are seeking to trace anyone who was walking eastwards along the pathway to the south of Camps Rigg. This was the route the woman walked.

“She then crossed over the railway bridge, which is over the main line between Edinburgh and Glasgow, which leads to Sutherland Way. The victim was attacked just over the bridge on a pathway which is a wooded area.

“We have CCTV from the railway and the man we are trying to trace was wearing a cream or light coloured hooded top. He may be unconnected to the attack, but we would urge him to come forward.”

The suspect is described as white, early 20s, 6ft tall, slim build, short dark brown hair and wearing dark jeans.
