Potentially lethal prescription medication has been stolen from a house in Prestonpans.

The methadone and diazepam tablets were stolen between 11.45am and 1.45pm on Thursday, along with a three-figure sum of cash, from the property in Bankfoot.

Police are now conducting enquiries to trace those responsible and anyone who remembers seeing anything suspicious in the area is asked to come forward.

A spokesman said: “We are keen to hear from local residents in Bankfoot who may have information relevant to this investigation and would urge them to contact police immediately.

“In addition we would like to remind the public that consumption of this medication by anyone other than the prescribed user could have serious implications for your health.

“Anyone who comes across these items should hand them in to their local police station.”

Anyone with information can contact Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
