A SPURNED lover who smashed his way into his ex-girlfriend’s flat before stabbing a man who was sleeping in her bed has been jailed for four years.
Jealous Darren Nelson, 29, stabbed Lee Raeburn,27, after wrongly accusing him of sleeping with his ex-girlfriend Jade Murray.
The High Court in Edinburgh heard how Nelson had split up with Jade just two weeks before the potentially fatal attack.
In a spate of text messages, the thug had threatened to murder anyone Jade went out with.
The court heard how in August 2013, Nelson went to Jade’s home in Leith, and forced his way into the property.
He attacked Mr Raeburn, 27, who had gone for a nap in Jade’s bed whilst she slept on a sofa.
On Friday, Lord Uist sent Nelson, of Gunnet Court, Edinburgh, into custody.
The judge told Nelson: “You have pleaded guilty to a serious crime.”
Nelson pleaded guilty earlier this year to assaulting Mr Raeburn to the danger of his life in the flat on Graham Street last August 3. Sentence had been deferred so that the court could obtain reports about Nelson’s character.
