Police have issued a warning after an 11-year-old boy was approached by two men and offered a suspicious-looking substance which they told him was a sweet.

Police in Midlothian are appealing for witnesses after the incident in Bonnyrigg.

The incident happened around 6pm on Saturday in Kings Park when two unknown teenagers offered the boy the substance.

The item was in a wrapper and was white with a smiley face on it.

The men are described as approximately 18-years-old and were wearing dark clothing.

Inspector Bryan Burns said: “We’re appealing to all children and young people to be aware of the dangers of excepting anything of this nature from people you don’t know, and to contact police, a parent or guardian as soon as possible if you are ever approached in a similar manner.

“We’re also appealing for any witnesses who can help us with our enquiries to come forward.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
