A FEMALE shopkeeper was pushed to the ground by a robber who grabbed bottles of alcohol before fleeing the store.

The woman was subjected to the “frightening” robbery at the News 4 U shop in Viewforth, Bruntsfield, on Monday night.

The 46-year-old had been working alone in the premises when the man burst in and walked behind the till.

He pushed her to the floor before making off with four bottles of alcohol worth £65.

The victim was uninjured after the ordeal, which took place at around 8.55pm.

The suspect is white, 5ft 9in tall with a slim build.

He was wearing a distinctive multi-coloured scarf round his neck, a dark beanie hat, navy-blue zipped hooded top, tracksuit bottoms and white trainers.

Detective Constable John McShane said: “While the shop worker was not injured, this was a frightening experience, which resulted in the theft of goods from her store.

“Anyone who remembers seeing any suspicious activity around the News 4 U shop on Monday evening should contact police immediately. In addition, anyone who recognises the description of the suspect and can help identify him is also urged to get in touch.”

Though the victim was uninjured she was traumatised.
