TWO men have been charged with housebreaking following a break-in to a garden shed.

The men, aged 36 and 30, were arrested following the raid in Broomhouse Crescent at around 3.10am this afternoon.

In another incident at around 1.30am today, two people were disturbed while attempting to break into a shed in Parkhead Loan.

Police issued a security warning to residents to be on their guard following a string of shed thefts in the south-west of the Capital. In the past few months, sheds have been broken into in Polwarth, Hutchison, Colinton Mains, Redhall, Baberton Mains and Colinton.

Inspector Liz Duthie said: “I’d like to remind those who live in the south west of the city to take simple security precautions to safeguard their homes and deter criminal activity.

“All sheds and outbuildings should be locked and secured when not in use and where possible, alarms and motion-triggered lighting should be considered.

“Anyone wishing more advice on crime prevention can contact their local policing team.”
