Police in Edinburgh city centre are appealing for witnesses to a serious assault which took place in the early hours of last Saturday morning.

An 18-year-old man was left with a fractured eye socket after he was attcked when he left City Nightclub on Market Street between 4.15am and 4.45am.

Detective Constable Lynne Baxter, who is leading the investigation, said: “The man was with two friends and as they walked towards the Edinburgh Dungeon, they got into a fight with a group of six or seven men who are believed to be in their mid to late 20’s.

“The man was punched once to the right side of his face, and suffered a fractured eye socket. He was unable to get a description of any of the men who attacked him, or in which direction they ran off.
