A NEW daily deals website – Edinburgh’s Great Deal – is helping to boost businesses after becoming a huge hit on Facebook.

Ron Morrison, of site operator Today’s Great Deal, said there was a “fantastic” response to the first ever online wedding fayre in March, featuring savings of between 50 and 75 per cent.

“The news about these fantastic deals is spread by the modern equivalent of word of mouth – that is, people posting Facebook ‘likes’ and getting in touch with their friends and family using social networking and community-based sites,” he said.

He added that the operation was helping to boost businesses in the Capital.

“From the beginning, we have always gone out to meet clients and talk them through how we can enhance their business,” he said.

“Because we are not sales managers with unrealistic targets, we have been able to structure deals with hotels, restaurants and retailers which actually help them build a loyal customer following.

“Community is at the root of the business. Unlike some deals sites, which overburden vendors with mass deals, we will always limit the capacity of the deal to what the vendor can sustain. This is really important for vendors. An empty hotel room or an empty chair in a spa beauty salon is actively costing the owner money. Filling it is simply good business.”
