A display of 2000 dead moles on a grouse moor near Haddington has been condemned.
Landowners regularly order the mass cull of the mammals, that are regarded as pests.
But the scale of the of the mass killings has shocked animal welfare groups.
The stringing up of the dead moles on a fence, an image of which has been posted on Twitter, has been described as “disgustingly Victorian”.
John Robins from Animal Concern said: “This unnecessary massacre of native wildlife shows the outdated mentality of some people working our land today.”
