a DRIVER who got behind the wheel in a rage has been banned for two years after causing havoc on the road.
Alexander Nelson, of Moredun Park Gardens, smashed his van into a house, struck a stationary car, hit a man, and collided with a set of railings.
The chaos began late on January 10 in Hunter Square, Gorebridge, where Nelson, 24, had an argument with a group of youths over alcohol.
Fiscal Depute, Karon Rollo, told Edinburgh Sheriff Court that Nelson’s white Ford Transit van collided with a house in the Square, damaging a gas meter and causing a fire.
Nelson drove off and later hit a parked Peugeot 306 in Burnside Road, Gorebridge, before knocking over Brian Dewar, who was standing in the middle of the road, attempting to get the driver to slow down.
Police eventually stopped Nelson after the van collided with railings in Ferniehill Road in Edinburgh.
Nelson admitted three charges of failing to report an accident and one of breach of the peace and was ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work. He must also pay Mr Dewar £400 compensation.
