TEENAGER Lauren Thomson is drumming up excitement in the pipe band world.
The 15-year-old from Gorebridge was crowned under-18 world champion at the International Solo Tenor Drumming competition at Glasgow Caledonia University.
The fifth-year student at Lasswade High School took up the instrument when she was about ten following sister Chloe. She took the top honour playing for Pryde of East Lothian alongside snare drummer Kyle Smith, 19, but is moving to Boghall and Bathgate Caledonia for the next band season.
She said: “I was happy with how it went but I wasn’t expecting to win. Everyone else jumped up first.”
