Three giant effigies were set alight on Calton Hill in a spectacular fireworks display to mark one of India’s most important festivals, Dussehra.

The 25ft-tall, brightly-painted figures lit up the sky in Edinburgh last night. Dussehra is one of the most important Hindu festivals and is held annually to celebrate the triumph of good over evil. The event’s name refers to Lord Rama’s victory over the ten-headed demon king Ravana.
