A TOP Edinburgh law firm from has warned a retail giant could be made to give substantial back payments to workers put on zero-hours contracts.
A legal challenge has been launched to test the legality of the contracts used by Sports Direct, which has outlets at the St James Centre and Fort Kinnaird.
The company’s part-time staff are said to be contracts that do not guarantee hours or income each week.
Morton Fraser’s Innes Clark said: “It could result in the employment tribunal ordering that significant back payments should be made to a large number of workers. It would result in Sport Direct and many other retailers having to review their employment practices.”
