An Edinburgh-woman has been chosen out of hundreds of people across Scotland as a regional finalist for the renowned Spectacle Wearer of the Year Awards.
Maureen Clegg, a semi-finalist in the 45-59 age category, could win £10,000 and a luxury holiday to New York if she wins as well as a chance to mingle with the stars at the 21st annual Spectacle Wearer of the Year Awards hosted by Specsavers.
Maureen is one of just ten regional semi-finalists from across Scotland.
Speaking on the competition she said: ‘I forgot I applied for the competition so was very pleasantly surprised when I received the call to tell me I was a regional semi-finalist.
‘I have been wearing glasses since I was five years old and was bullied as a child, even by my brothers. But now I wear my glasses with pride.
‘I can’t wait to hear if I’ve made it through to the final stages of the competition.”
To celebrate, her local opticians presented her with a bottle of champagne, a certificate and a £150 glasses voucher.
Now in its 21st year, the competition raises valuable funds for anti-bullying charity Kidscape, which has totalled £300,000 to date.
