A FLOOD alert has been issued for Edinburgh - on one of the hottest days of the year so far.

While Capital residents were enjoying blue skies, sweltering sunshine and temperatures of around 22C, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) have issued flood warnings for Edinburgh and the Lothians.

Forecasters are expecting scattered heavy showers from mid-afternoon into this evening, which could cause localised flooding to city roads and disruption to travel.

SEPA advised people to kerep an eye on the weather, and anyone wanting more information can call Floodline on 0845 9881188.
