MET Office bosses have issued a yellow “be aware” warning as snow and ice causes traffic disruption across Edinburgh and the Lothians.

They have advised drivers to stay alert amid concern over icy roads and treacherous driving conditions.

Lothian Buses said a number of their services had been disrupted and would not be able to reach certain destinations.

Services 29, 33, 37, 40 and 47 are among those affected.

They have advised customers to consult their live service update site before travelling.

There have also been road closures at the east end of Earlston and south of Dalkeith, causing bus services to be delayed or diverted.

They said updates on further disruption would follow.

Residents have also taken to Twitter to post images of homes and roads blanketed in snow in Midlothian, Currie and Balerno.

Others expressed surprise at the disruption on the Evening News Facebook page.

Kendal Reid wrote: “We have 30 mins of rain and the traffic comes to a stand still, can’t get my head round this, we live in Scotland - it’s the norm!”
