The monstrous frame of a Tyrannosaurus rex was being unloaded from containers at Edinburgh Zoo yesterday as the stars of its Jurassic adventure arrived.

Fourteen animatronic dinosaurs arrived at the zoo ready to be carefully unpacked from shipping containers that have taken them all the way over the Atlantic from the United States.

The zoo’s team took delivery yesterday with forklift trucks and lots of manpower. They will be the stars of the six-month exhibition Dinosaurs Return! which is set in a specially designed landscape, with huge rocks and foliage to create a realistic version of their prehistoric habitat.

Zoo bosses expect the animatronic adventure to pull in up to 100,000 visitors, and said they would link dinosaurs to modern animals.
