EDINBURGH’S giant pandas, Tian Tian and Yang Guang, are showing signs they are in the mood for love ahead of this year’s brief mating window.
Sunshine and Sweetie. as they are more affectionately known, are getting frisky again, raising hopes that they may produce a cub at the second attempt.
The couple are scent marking their pen and upping their intake of bamboo, bulking up for a possible mating attempt. They are also showing increased interest in each other ahead of the 40-hour window when Tian Tian will be fertile.
Iain Valentine, director of giant pandas at the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland Zoo said: “These are instinctive pre-breeding behaviours that we want to be seeing”.
