TWO budding writers from the Capital have been named runners-up in a national writing competition.
Beth Campbell from Juniper Green Primary School and Andrea Ferguson, a pupil at Mary Erskine and Stewart’s Melville Junior School, fought off tough competition in Explore Learning’s National Young Writers’ Award.
This year’s theme was “old and new”. Beth’s story was about discovering a box full of family memories and belongings that transport the main character, Georgia, back in time.
Meanwhile, Andrea’s story, Ramah’s Shoes, was a tale about a young girl who moves to Glasgow from Afghanistan.
The competition was judged by author of the Spy Dog series, Andy Cope.
He said: “The entrants this year completely blew me away. These are some of the best young writers in the country and I’ve loved the opportunity to get involved in a competition where we encourage children to put pen to paper, get inspired and create.”
