JOE Dudgeon has every reason to smile – after bagging Craigroyston High’s best S4 exam results in years.
The 16-year-old obtained five credit passes at Standard Grade and three Intermediate 2 awards, sparking delight among family and teachers after it emerged his clutch was the best seen from the school’s S4 since 2008.
Joe obtained grade one passes in English, geography and PE, grade two passes in biology and craft and design, and intermediate two success in French, graphic communication and maths.
Joe said: “I’ve always had high expectations of myself and others have had high expectations for me – I just got my head down.”
Education chiefs said Craigroyston and Wester Hailes Education Centre (WHEC) – which had languished near the bottom of exam league tables – were forging ahead. At WHEC the Higher pass rate shot up from ten per cent last year to 33 per cent, while the number of Craigroyston pupils gaining three or more Highers went from two to seven per cent.
Councillor Paul Godzik, education leader, said: “Craigroyston and WHEC demonstrate how well young people can achieve when they have a high quality of teaching and learning combined with support for pupils.”
