Loretto School in Musselburgh has been given 18 months to widen access to the community, or it could lose its charitable status.

It has failed to meet the criteria defined in the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 following an assessment by the Regulator.

A report says the school has taken insufficient measures to provide assistance in respect of high school fees, or to otherwise widen the access to the benefit provided.

Both Mannafields Christian School in Edinburgh and Compass School in East Lothian passed the test.
