Hundreds of people have been evacuated from Napier University’s Merchiston campus after a fire broke out just after 10.30 this morning.
Several fire engines, ambulances and police units attended the Bruntsfield campus shortly after 10.34am.
It is thought the fire started in the basement of the building with students on the scene reporting huge billows of smoke coming from it.
The Scottish Ambulance Service also confirmed that no one was taken to hospital and the police are currently redirecting traffic away from Colinton Road.
It is believed that there is damaged some electrical damage.
Staff and students are now being escorted back into the building to collect their belongings but the university is not expected to reopen until tomorrow at the earliest.
The Scottish Fire Service confirmed that they left at 1.32pm.
