PUPILS from a number of Lothians schools have made it through to the next round of a nationwide debating competition.

The Law Society of Scotland’s Donald Dewar Memorial Debating Tournament aims to encourage speaking skills among youngsters and invites secondary schools to apply.

Following the opening event, Edinburgh’s Mary Erskine’s, George Heriot’s, Fettes College and James Gillespie’s schools have all qualified.

Glenalmond College in Livingston and Linlithgow Academy also made it through.
