A school has been criticised after three teenagers faced suspension for smuggling in soft drinks to sell to pals.

Teachers have been cracking down on the illicit trade in the sugary treats – which are banned on health grounds.

They were caught selling Lucozade Sport to fellow pupils.

The pupils were caught after a bag search at St Kentigern’s Academy in Blackburn.

The exclusions, thought to involve three 13-year-olds, were for two days.

But staff reduced them to written warnings after being challenged by a mum.

Schools have a policy of not selling fizzy drinks on site but pupils may bring them in for their own consumption.
