CONSTRUCTION has begun on the new £34 million James Gillespie’s High School building.

The existing campus in Marchmont will be replaced by a new teaching block and sports facility, which has been part-funded by the Scottish Government.

It follows a new nursery and gym for James Gillespie’s Primary at the same site.

Once completed in summer 2016, it will house 1150 pupils and 104 staff.
