A GLOBAL search is under way for a new chief executive at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre after Hans H Rissmann OBE revealed he is to retire after more than 20 years.

Mr Rissmann – who took on the role in May 1993 – will officially step down in April 2015.

Council chiefs said today they would take their time finding the right replacement after launching a “strategic succession plan”.

City chief executive Sue Bruce paid tribute to Mr Rissmann’s contribution to the Capital’s business tourism industry.

She said: “We have been fortunate to have had Hans at the helm at EICC for 20 years.

“He has made a huge personal contribution through his exemplary leadership.

“In that time the conference centre has hosted close to one million delegates and delivered an economic impact in excess of £400 million to the city.

“EICC played a leading role in attracting major businesses to contribute to the regeneration of an important part of the city centre.”

The EICC said the search for Mr Rissman’s successor would be an international one.

A spokesperson said: “Continuity is key for our international customers who book years in advance to bring thousands of delegates to Edinburgh.

“The global search for the next leader of EICC will take time.”
