AN elderly man has died after a fire in a flat in Livingston.

Firefighters were called to a block of four-storey flats on Hawk Brae shortly after 4pm yesterday.

Crews pulled the unidentified man from his ground-floor flat, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lothian and Borders Police said investigations were continuing into the cause of the fire, but the incident was not believed to be suspicious.

No-one else was hurt in the blaze, which was contained to one flat.

Neighbour William Gillespie, 79, said the man had been living at the property for about 18 months.

A police spokesman said the victim had been elderly, but could would not confirm his identity.
