A PUB landlord has been ordered to ditch a sign branding tomorrow’s Auld Enemy clash “Scotland vs Them” because it is offensive to English sensitivities.

Cliff McArthur, of the Royal Mackintosh Hotel in Dunbar, claims police told him to remove the listing on a blackboard in the hotel’s sports bar promoting the England versus Scotland friendly match at Wembley.

The pub boss said no-one had complained about the sign and today police were accused of being too heavy-handed.

Mr McArthur said: “The police arrived and the police officer said to me, ‘Who’s them?’

“The police were being very serious and said, ‘If one of my English colleagues had seen this you’d be in serious
trouble’.”

Ward councillor Paul McLennan described the reaction as “political correctness gone crazy”.

Police Scotland said it had no record of an official visit from officers to the hotel.
