SUFFERING a dearth of visitors to their small Highland village, the locals of Glenairty need a plan to bring back the tourists - and their money. A gold rush might just prove the perfect solution.

In Anne-Marie Fraser’s new musical, Goldrush!, which receives its World Premiere at the St Bride’s Centre tomorrow, that exactly what they do, start a Scottish gold rush to revive their fortunes and lure the tourists back to Glenairty.

When hobby prospector, Pete, plants a rumour that gold has been found in his Highland Glen, he gets more than he bargains for.

His dark past returns to haunt him, while his family comes under threat from some very unwelcome visitors…

With 17 new songs, a comedy plot line, stage magic, and a cast ranging in age from 10 to 60, the show is designed to have broad appeal says, Fraser, “The musical has been several years in the making.

“Last summer we went into the recording studio to lay down all the main song numbers, which enabled us to attract and then coach our talented cast.

“We’ve chosen the 250-seat theatre of St Brides Centre, known for its good acoustics, to premiere the piece.”

Described as a ‘Celtic musical’, the songs feature a variety of styles from tender ballads through Samba and Rap to an energizing set of Scottish reels.
