EXPLOSIVE fun is set to erupt at Our Dynamic Earth over the summer with the introduction of the latest ShowDome film, Supervolcanoes.
Visitors will get to witness volcanoes at their mightiest as they are taken on a thrilling journey - flying from giant volcanoes on other planets, to the legendary North American hot spot, Yellowstone National Park.
Narrated by Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch, Supervolcanoes explores the impact of colossal eruptions around our solar system, and questions whether a supervolcano could erupt in our time.
The 360-degree full dome projection is screened with surround sound, providing a fully immersive, high impact cinematic experience, bringing the audience into the action.
To complement the film, a new gallery, Earth’s Core has also opened. Situated in the earthy dome in front of Our Dynamic Earth (an area which has been closed to the public since 2007), Earth’s Core takes visitors on a voyage to the centre of the earth.
Other special events for the summer months include family-friendly guided geo-walks around the Capital’s own volcano, Arthur’s Seat.
Eilidh Massie, of Our Dynamic Earth says, “We’re very excited about adding extra heat to the Scottish summer with our volcano theme. We really have something for everyone. Our ShowDome films are always a big hit with children and adults alike, and Supervolcanoes is one of the most dramatic we’ve ever had – it’s definitely a must-see!”
Supervolcanoes will be showing at regular intervals daily until the end of August. The guided geo walks will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 24 July-14 August (excluding 31 July) at 2pm. Both are free with admission to Our Dynamic Earth.
