Edinburgh’s Fringe festival is set to expand its reach from the confines of the Capital to cinemas across the UK.

Comedy, theatre and opera performances at Summerhall will be broadcast on Odeon screens nationwide throughout August.

Digitals arts group Hibrow has teamed up with the cinema giant to make sure people can enjoy a snapshot of the Fringe even if they are not in Edinburgh.

Eight new shows from the Hiighbrow Hour programme have been specially designed to be transmitted via satellite to selected Odeon screens.

Don Boyd, Artistic Director for Hibrow, said: “Our Hibrow Hour at Summerhall was conceived with the intention of offering audiences everywhere a flavour of Edinburgh’s creative buzz in August. Our relationship with Odeon has given us the opportunity to fulfil that ambition and so extend the great work pioneered by the National Theatre and the Royal Opera House in bringing exciting new shows to local cinemas all over the country.”
