Have your say

JUST leaving Kilkenny after a brilliant weekend at the Cat Laughs Festival - its been an absolute hoot.

It is where all the best Irish comics congregate to have a laugh and host some of the best international comedy. Rich Hall, Mike Wilmot, Fred MacAulay, Sean Walsh, Dom Irrera, David O’Docherty, Andrew Maxwell, Michael Redmond and loads more comics were all here.

I met Judah Freidlander, best known for his role as Frank Rossitano in 30 Rock. He was different in that he told the audience that he was running for the next president of the United States of America and he asked the audience to ask questions.

I believe he is coming over to Edinburgh this coming weekend to appear at the Stand and he is also going to guest at Late’n’Live during the Festival.

It was also good to catch up with Kevin Bridges, who I haven’t seen since he started selling out arenas. It was much more satisfying for me to enjoy his comedy in a 400-seater - comedy works so much better in a more intimate setting.

What was really great about our meeting was that he is obviously still the same guy I put on in small venues as recently as five years ago.

Thankfully I had no mishaps on this trip but did see a great little show, The Mitch Hedberg tribute show. Mitch was a very talented American comic who sadly died in 2005, and various comics, including Dom Irrera and Wil Durst, paid tribute and told some of his jokes, showing footage of him at the end.

Very few people saw Mitch in the UK and I will be trying to bring the show to Edinburgh in the future.

There’s lots of comedy in Scotland this weekend, including my wonderful friend Bill Bailey at the Festival Theatre, a show not to be missed.

While I was away in Ireland our Festival Brochure came out. Hope you all manage to get a copy and see what brilliant shows are coming to you in August.

I will be bringing you more and more highlights in the coming weeks.
