Liam Rudden: Anyone fancy a Danish?

Have your say

SUBTITLED dramas, they’re all the rage. If, like me, you got caught up in Borgen and puzzled along with the Swedish cops in The Bridge, then chances are you’ll be keen to meet The Protectors, another great foreign crime drama, now out on DVD.

First broadcast in 2009, The Protectors (not to be confused with the Gerry Anderson 1970s series starring Robert Vaughn, Nyree Dawn Porter and Tony Anholt) is set in Copenhagen.

It focuses on the lives and missions of Rasmus, Jonas and Jasmina, three members of police bodyguard squad PET (Politiets Efterretningstjeneste) - think a cross between Spooks and The Professionals.

Their job is to protect eminent politicians, industrialists, heads of state and other VIPs - with their lives if need be.

Fast-paced, well scripted and with just a hint of Borgen about it, The Protectors is well worth a look. Check it out here: http://theprotectors.zdfe-b2b.de/

Meanwhile, courtesy of Arrow DVD, I have some box sets of the first series of Livvagterne as it’s known in Denmark, to give away.

To enter the draw to win, email your name, age and address to lrudden@edinburghnews.com with the word PROTECT in the subject line by midnight tonight. Usual Johnston Press rules apply. Good luck.

The Protectors (15), is now available on DVD, £24.99
