POP legend Lionel Richie – one of the best selling acts of all time – will return to the Capital for the first time in more than a decade for a one-off performance at Edinburgh Castle this summer.

The five-time Grammy Award winner, who has sold more than 100 million records in a 45-year career, has announced he will bring the All The Hits All Night Long tour to Edinburgh on July 22.

It is the first time the former Commodores singer has performed in Edinburgh since 2001.

He said: “Returning to Edinburgh Castle is going to be amazing.

“I can’t wait to perform in such a breathtaking location which is steeped in history. There’s always a special atmosphere there and I’m excited to be part of this musical tradition.”

Featuring songs spanning his entire career, from the Commodores through to the present day, Richie’s performances are renowned for being much more than just a concert, and include favourites such as Dancing On The Ceiling, Say You Say Me, Hello, Three Times A Lady and All Night Long.

Mark Mackie, director of Castle Concerts and Regular Music – the promoters behind the gig – said: “It is with real delight we are able to announce Lionel Richie as our first artist to confirm that they will play Edinburgh Castle next July. Anyone who attended his legendary sold-out concert there in 2001 will be, like me, desperate to see him there again.”

Nick Finnigan, executive manager at Edinburgh Castle, said: “We are delighted to welcome Lionel Richie back.”

Tickets go on sale on Friday at 9am, and are available from www.ticketmaster.co.uk and 0844-844 0444.
