Had Discopolis emerged four or five years ago, they would have been massive. Their synth-suffused take on house and electro recalls early releases from once-hot French ‘blog-house’ label Kitsune (and to a lesser extent, Ed Banger), though the band’s live instrumentation adds some welcome texture to their dance music influences.
Providing support for avant-garde electronic music producer Matthew Dear gives them an extra edge of credibility that they certainly have the chops to realise into something greater in the near future.
On the basis of the accommodating entry fee, you certainly won’t see a better band this week.
Discopolis, Cabaret Voltaire, Blair Street, tonight, 7pm, £2, 0131-220 6176
