EDINBURGH Theatre Arts (ETA) can currently be found performing Macbeth In Scots, at St Ninians Hall in Stockbridge.
The piece, by the late Robin Lorimer, is their contribution to the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Open Stages initiative, which encourages theatre companies throughout the UK to stage Shakespeare’s works in new and innovative ways.
The ETA production is competing against other companies across Scotland for the opportunity to perform as part of the World Shakespeare Season at Stratford upon Avon later this year.
Not ‘a couthy tartan and haggis affair,’ Lorimer’s Scots translation of the Bard’s bloody tragedy has been described as a sinewy and fast-flowing production, enhanced by simple, atmospheric lighting, sound and staging.
St Ninians Hall, Stockbridge, until Saturday, 7.30pm (Saturday matinee 2.30pm), £10, www.edinburghtheatrearts.com
