A COMEDIAN from the Lothians has finished runner-up in the prestigious So You Think You’re Funny awards at the Fringe.

Fern Brady, from Bathgate, came joint third at the sold-out event late on Thursday night, overcoming more than 50 heat finalists and hundreds of entrants to win £500.

Tommy Rowson, from London, scooped the top prize of £2000, while Dayne Rathbone from Australia took second with £1000. Lucy Beaumont from Hull was joint third.

Miss Brady, 25, a production journalist at ITV and an Edinburgh University graduate, is the first local comic to reach the top three in recent years and only got into comedy to write a one-off feature on taking to the stage for Edinburgh’s Fest magazine.
