Lynne McCrossan: Solo sleepover an own goal on our anniversary

Rachel Arthur, 23, New Town. I do love a creative and Rachel is certainly one of those. Her eclectic sense of style is funky but utterly wearable. Her trousers are H&M, the t-shirt was found in Mango while in Spain, the bobble hat is her mother's and the jewellery is a mix of Topshop and vintage.

TRADING capitals for 24 hours to fashion forage for work is extremely edifying but evidently life-endangering.

Especially if swapping Edinburgh for London falls on your first wedding anniversary – a date that managed to evaporate from memory (in my defence, we’ve been together over a decade and never celebrated one anniversary).

The situation hit saturation point when stepping into the most stylish hotel I’ve ever seen for a solo sleepover.

Two intertwining cherry blossom trees tenderly touched over a roaring fire in the lobby of The Berkeley. Beneath them, twin leather armchairs sat vacant either side, awaiting some chic couple. It was like taking a dagger to the heart.

On my left their famous Blue Bar was in view. The David Collins-
designed room is like slipping into a sensual work of art. This lapis lazuli Elysium has a hazy effect on the eyes, flattering every face inside. I’m convinced it would be impossible to take a bad photograph as the velvety blue tones complement every complexion, making it clear why the fashion set flock here.

It’s the kind of place you’d love to live in and looking around I wondered how I’d ever make it up to the Belfast boy.

Turns out two tickets to Tynecastle is all I needed. But I’ll take fashion over football any day of the week.
