IN Gorgie there isn’t much room to swing a cat tucked up inside a cosy one-bed flat.
But that doesn’t mean you can’t tart the old dear up every now and then.
After the best part of half a century a monumental shift happened this week at Wardlaw. A sleek new kitchen was designed and fitted, transforming a slither of space into a stylish scullery.
This cataclysmic change has reverberated its way through the rest of the flat, exposing the need for a makeover in every other room.
Now, I know you’re hearing the Changing Rooms theme tune but I can assure you there’s no Carol Smillie to the rescue in this episode. Much to my dismay, I may add.
Walking around numerous DIY chains and home stores it struck me that everything looks the same. It was like “Homogenised Homes R Us”.
There seems to be no room for individuality on the home front unless you want to part with some serious cash. And since funds are most certainly not unlimited I’ve had to revert to the drawing board – literally. Don’t like the wallpaper on offer? Design your own. God bless Google and its ability to link the design-challenged with their Holy Grail.

I feel like the fat fairy Godmother in Cinderella. Wardlaw shall go to the ball.
The chunky shoe. Love or loathe them, they have infiltrated the fashion set and are hitting the high street. Make your peace with them as autumn-winter previews are proving they aren’t going away. Plus side, your feet will feel fantastic in them - you just have to wait for the overall feeling to catch up.
