AUSTRALIAN musical comedy trio Axis of Awesome are currently playing the Gilded Balloon.
Here Jordan Raskopoulos, Lee Naimo and Benny Davis explain why they think the Capital is pretty awesome too.
THERE’S a lot to look forward to each August in Edinburgh. Oh sure, there’s the Fringe Festival, which some would call The World’s Best Arts and Culture Festival, that’s hard to miss.
To the untrained eye, it might seem that the Axis of Awesome make our yearly pilgrimage to Scotland solely to perform our show, but those untrained eyes would be wrong. Wrong eyes.
The REAL reason we eagerly anticipate the 26-hour plane trip each year is much more curry-related. It’s Kismot. Specifically, Kismot Curry on St Leonard’s Steet.
It’s usually the first meal we’ll have upon arriving in Edinburgh and those international flights usually get in pretty early in the morning, so we’re no strangers to the breakfast curry.
It’s amazing what the body can achieve once you free the mind of the shackles of the traditional meal times that have been forced upon us by the ruling monarchy.
You’ll also see us regularly hanging outside the Gilded Balloon enjoying a crepe or even at 56North or the Salisbury Arms consuming both food and alcohol (at the same time). But nothing goes past a good Kismot curry.
Will 2014 be the year that we finally try the ‘Kismot Killer’, the curry that requires you to place a roll of toilet paper in your freezer as soon as you get home? If we cancel any shows, you’ll know we probably did.
Axis of Awesome: Viva La Vida Loca Las Vegas, Gilded Balloon, Teviot, until 24 August, 9pm, £12-£14, 0131-226 0000
