THE diminutive Lucy Porter can officially be called a Fringe veteran this year, as she brings her tenth solo show to the Capital. Me Time runs at The Stand until Sunday and is an achievement she’s proud of, and rightly so.
THIS year I am bringing my tenth solo show to the Fringe. I wish I’d issued loyalty cards from the beginning. If anyone can prove they’ve come to all ten I’ll buy you a set of steak knives or a clock radio or something. Like any long-term relationship, my Edinburgh affair has had ups and downs.
Here are some of the highs: The show where I exited the stage on a vibrating washing machine on wheels.
The show where I had my technician, Shaun, dress as a polar bear and wheel a 6ft golden phallus across the stage.
The show where another technician, Gadget, set up a fireworks display for my final night that was so huge it nearly blew up our venue.
And these would count amongst the lows: Deciding to have a glitter cannon go off at the end of every show, not realising what a massive pain it would be clearing it up afterwards. Plus I was coughing up glitter for months.
The show where I had to spend a significant amount of time dressed as a giant carrot. That costume got so hot and sweaty I nearly passed out every night.
I’ve been a venue tart over the years, flitting from the Gilded Balloon to the Underbelly, to the Assembly, to the Pleasance. Now I’m back at The Stand, which seems fitting, since they were the first venue in Scotland that ever booked me. So please come down and help us celebrate this momentous anniversary.
