GET a sneak peak behind the scenes of the Royal Lyceum on Saturday when, to celebrate their new season, the Grindlay Street theatre welcomes old friends and new faces backstage to take part in a whole host of activities, including backstage tours, interactive workshops and creative discussions, in a bid to explore the different elements involved in bringing a play to the stage.
Backstage tours will explore the hidden world behind the Theatre curtain, including the actors’ green room, quick change spaces and the stage itself.
Backstage tours will take place at 10.15am, 10.45am, 11.45am, 12.15pm, 1.15pm, 1.45pm, 2.45pm, 3.15pm and 4pm. Although free you are advised to book a place in advance.
At 10.30am, new artistic director David Greig will discuss how he programmed his inaugural season and an hour later their will be the chance to join actors in an informal workshop, which will explain the building blocks of maintaining a career on the stage.
There will also be a number of opportunities throughout the day to watch cast members of the Lyceum’s opening production of the season, The Suppliant Women, working in the rehearsal room.
For youngsters, the Lyceum Youth Theatre will host taster sessions throughout the day, where anyone aged between 5 and 18 is welcome to take part in fun and engaging workshops.
LYT Mini workshops for eight to 10 year olds will take place at 10.30am and 3pm.
An LYT Play workshop for five to seven year olds will be at 11.30am, while at 12.30pm there will be a LYT Junior workshop for 11 to 13 year olds.
LYT Senior workshops for 14 to 18 year olds will take place at 2pm and 4pm. Each workshop lasts 45 minutes.
Later, in LYT’s Manifesto, the Lyceum Youth Theatre will create an immersive site-specific performance inspired by The Cheviot, the Stag & the Black, Black Oil.
