AT The Playhouse, Australian musical theatre star Michael Griffiths has effortlessly imbued pop icon Madonna with class. * * * * *

Sitting at a piano, a pot of tea at his side and surrounded by tables with twinkling candles, Griffiths takes us on a deconstruction of the great lady’s life through her work. It is an intimate affair underscored by a wickedly camp bitchiness that delights.
Madonna’s best known works have been tinkered with, reworked into piano friendly melodies and Griffiths’s vocals, arguably, do a better job of honouring the songs than Madge’s original offerings.
Underlying the show is a genuine love of pop Madonna. As you leave you find yourself desperately wishing he’d introduce you to some more of the divas that must be occupying his thoughts.
