IN our final trip to Rome, Marcus is a little nervous - unless they find 3000 denarii, the girls are going to be deported. Not to worry - Stylax has a great idea: they should bet their entire savings on him winning an underground chariot race.
Meanwhile, Grumio visits Landlord in prison through a sewage pipe.
MasterChef: The Professionals (BBC Two, 9pm)
NEW judge Marcus Wareing joins Gregg Wallace and Monica Galetti to critique the chefs’ culinary attempts. In the first heat, five chefs from around the nation have just one hour to cook a dish that will thrill the trio of judges and show them exactly what they can bring to the table. Unfortunately, for the one who impresses the least, well, they will be shown the door.
Great Continental Railway Journeys (BBC Two, 9pm)
ARMED with his trusty Bradshaw’s guide, Michael Portillo is off on the Eurostar to travel overseas and into the past for the first of a new series.
His first journey takes in Russia.
He takes in Tula, Saint Petersburg and Moscow, among other places, and along the way is taught “how to wash”.
Peaky Blinders (BBC Two, 9pm)
SERIES two has made for compelling viewing in recent weeks, and the latest episode is no exception. It’s Derby Day at Epsom, and under orders from Major Campbell, Tommy is there to assassinate a high-ranking member of the military establishment.
He plans turn the situation to his advantage by bringing his gang to the racecourse and striking a blow at gang boss Sabini - a scheme that could take his organisation to another level.
Lewis (STV, 9pm)
TONIGHT, it’s the penultimate episode of the series, the first of a two-part finale. We’re taken back to 2001, when Lewis arrested Graham Lawrie for the brutal murder of three police officers. Lawrie was given a life sentence, and after being diagnosed with psychopathy, was admitted to a secure psychiatric hospital.
But now, 13 years down the line, the prosecution’s case is falling apart, after the forensics department that dealt with the DNA used to convict Lawrie has been called into question.
The accused is still locked up, now awaiting his day in court, but Lewis knows he got trouble when PC Mark Travis is lured to isolated location and struck over the head with a slater’s hammer - the same murder weapon that was used 13 years ago...
Doctor Who: Death In Heaven (BBC Two, 8pm)
WITH Cybermen on the streets of London, old friends unite against old enemies and the Doctor takes to the air in a startling new role.
