From Rabbie Burns’ Red, Red Rose to The Beatles’ Something, Shakespeare’s Sonnets to Adele’s One and Only, there’s nothing quite like the right words at the right time to melt a heart.
Most of us don’t have the special talent to find the right phrase to capture our passion in verse – that is why we treasure those wordsmiths who can.
One of the best is undoubtedly Edinburgh Makar Ron Butlin, an internationally acclaimed poet whose work has been translated into more than ten languages.
The Edinburgh Evening News has teamed up with Ron and the Edinburgh UNESCO City of Literature Trust to offer one lucky reader the chance to see their love celebrated in a unique poem written by the Capital’s poet laureate.
All you have to do is tell us why your loved one deserves to be lauded in this way. Maybe it is the difference that their love makes to your life, or the remarkable things - however big or small - that they do for other people, that makes them so special.
Whatever it is, tell us in your own words by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or writing to Love Poem, Edinburgh Evening News, 108 Holyrood Road, EH8 8AS.
Entries must be received by 5pm on Wednesday, January 29. Please include the gender and age of your loved one. The judges’ decision is final.
