ESSENTIAL Edinburgh’s campaign to be re-elected as Business Improvement District (BID) champion for the Capital has been given a political boost by a local MSP.
Marco Biagi, who represents Edinburgh Central in Holyrood, said the organisation had done “commendable work” revitalising St Andrew Square, delivered cost savings to business and handling the Occupy protests “sensitively” during their five years.
Speaking at a Q&A at the Scottish Parliament, he said: “When BIDs are done properly through real involvement by the businesses they represent – especially smaller ones – they can revitalise a whole neighbourhood or city centre. Essential Edinburgh have managed a series of higher and lower profile initiatives very well. In particular, Rose Street is a hidden gem. It needs to be next in line for a St Andrew Square-style makeover. Essential Edinburgh’s vision to revamp the street is the right way to go.”
The vote runs until May 23.
