CITY centre businesses which support plans to launch a new marketing campaign which promote the Capital after the tramworks are complete have been urged to re-elect Essential Edinburgh at the ballot box.
The contract to run a Business Improvement District is up for renewal after five years and retailers have just a week left to cast their vote.
If Essential Edinburgh is returned, it has pledged a £1 million war chest to market the Capital – part-funded by the city council and Marketing Edinburgh.
Andy Neal, chief executive of Essential Edinburgh, said: “We are seeing progress continue apace with the tramworks. We should see the work in St Andrew Square completed this weekend, and the prospect of trams running is now very much a reality.
“Once the work is completed, we want to mount the biggest campaign ever for the city centre to ensure that people return to enjoy all that the fantastic heart of Edinburgh has to offer in terms of shopping, food and drink, visitor attractions, culture and fabulous architecture and ambience.”
He added: “Everything is in place – but we need the businesses which will benefit from the campaign to make sure they get their postal votes in and vote ‘Yes’, or there will be no campaign.”
