As a major European capital city, celebrity visits aren’t exactly rare, as our pictures show.

They don’t come more famous than The Beatles, and Paul McCartney turned heads on North Bridge when he arrived with wife Linda and daughter Stella in May 1973.

Hollywood legend Bette Davis was making herself comfortable – with her trademark cigarette in hand – when she visited Edinburgh in October 1975.

Oliver Reed was raising a glass when he attended a dinner in the city in August 1971. And Elizabeth Taylor enjoyed a chat with Festival director Frank Dunlop in August 1984.
