Have your say

Nothing beats the feeling of bagging a bargain. It has become a badge of honour proudly shown off alongside brand new purchases.

People go to pretty extreme lengths to ensure they are on the receiving end of a thrifty find – queues of quivering bodies lined up outside Boxing Day sales spring to mind.

But why bother? If you don’t mind a good old fashioned hunt for your treasure, there are bargains on the rails all year round.

TK Maxx opens its Hermiston Gait outlet store in the city this week, giving label loving fashionistas another discount shopping choice. Famous for slashing the prices of designer clobber, it is a store that prides itself on letting its shoppers style themselves instead of dictating what people should wear. So I’ve taken a look at six key trends to show you how easy it is to create a bespoke look on a budget.

There isn’t a season that swings by that doesn’t incorporate some sort of animal print motif.

This season is no different. If anything, it is bigger. There are more animal print options to choose from so it is completely up to your personal preference what to rock.

There was a leaning towards a more causal approach to wearing the trend on the runways so dress it down by throwing in a statement coat to counter balance the print’s loudness.

individuality

One of the joys of shopping in TK Maxx is the ability to get your hands on fast affordable fashion. That means you can be a little freer with your fashion choices.

Let’s be honest, you are meant to have fun with clothes even if you run the risk of ridiculing yourself a few months down the line. Team loud prints together and have fun experimenting.

The Classic Blazer

A trusty staple in any woman’s wardrobe, the black blazer has the capacity to go with any outfit choice you throw at it.

Fall in love with one that fits your body perfectly, that way you will have it for a maximum amount of time.

I opted to pair the classic with this season’s must-have item, the leather legging.

Dress it up or down with a T-shirt and statement shoes of your choice for a fun approach to this old faithful.

Knitwear

It is coming to that time of year when the shops are stocked full of knitwear. A cosy jumper is a prerequisite for autumn winter but there are other options out there.

A jumper dress in fine yarn ticks the trend box and can take you from day time to night with the change of a few

accessories.

A simple biker jacket slung over the top instantly dilutes a dress that you would otherwise rule out simply as evening wear.

Designers

Shirt dresses are one of the easiest and most versatile items of clothing to get your hands on.

Worn belted or left to hang loosely they have an ease about them that is hard to find with other items.

For longevity with a piece like this opt for one block colour, avoiding pattern so the item doesn’t date easily. I’d also recommend going for a colour that you love or suits your complexion, that way you are investment buying.

Sports Luxe

One of the most comfortable and chic trends that never disappears. It lends itself to individual interruption beautifully.

If you are unsure of what the look actually means, it’s really simple, basically a more polished version of sportswear.

Expensive materials, typically silk, are styled in a sporty way to create a polarising look. The only rule that should be upheld when doing sports luxe is teaming your outfit with a high heel.
