Police are investigating after a female beggar was attacked on Princes Street.
The 25-year-old woman was begging at the Wellington statue in the east end when a man approached from the direction of the St James centre and attacked her.
She suffered a cut to her right cheek and the suspect made off up West Register Street.
The man is described only as being white with a slim build and wearing a blacked hooded jumper.
Detective Constable Andy Cory said: “This appears to have been a random and unprovoked attack, which left the victim with a painful injury to her face.
“Anyone who remembers seeing anything suspicious on Princes Street on Tuesday evening is asked to contact police immediately.
“In addition, anyone with any further information relevant to this enquiry should also get in touch.”
